maksymChris Maksym, Pharm.D., Chairman of the NHIA Board of Directors, reviews the association’s strategic vision for the future

Today, the National Home Infusion Association (NHIA) kicked off its 2008 Annual Conference & Exposition, “Transforming Our Future, Together.”  The four-day event, being held in Phoenix, Arizona, was kicked off with a review of the association’s strategic vision for the future and entertainment by “Extraordinist” Craig Karges.

With all the extraordinary changes in today’s health care marketplace, the alternate-site infusion therapy field is at a “crossroads” moment. NHIA is working to help members collaborate to transform the future of the industry.

Faced with challenge, uncertainty, and opportunity, NHIA “must commit to a transformation equation for success,” asserted Chris Maksym, Pharm.D., Chairman of NHIA’s Board of Directors in his opening remarks. “Transformation is achievable,” he assured members, “but if we are to truly transform alternate-site infusion and seize all the opportunities, we must commit to this strategic ‘Transformation Equation for Success’ together, regardless of what stakeholder role we may play in the field.”

Leadership, vision, courage, innovation, and fellowship are the key elements of the equation, Maksym continued as he outlined the association’s strategic vision for the future. “Our vision is to bring all alternate-site infusion stakeholders closer together,” said Maksym.  “Our goal is to speak with one common and unified voice on the Hill and to the larger public.”

NHIA Executive Director Russell Bodoff updates members on the state of the association

For the past year, under the leadership of Executive Director Russell Bodoff, NHIA has undergone a series of structural changes designed to better position the association for strategic growth and bring NHIA in line with more traditional trade association structures.

For example, the NHIA Board restructured itself to best represent the complete variety of different size providers within the changing field, expanding from nine to 12 members. Six new representatives have been elected to the NHIA Board, with three designated to replace members whose terms have expired. The new Board will help NHIA bring together a more diversified pool of providers—adding expertise, skill sets and resources as well as assure a healthy balance of representation on between small, medium, and large providers.

NHIA has also fortified its senior staff leadership team, while finding ways to better engage corporate business partners in an exciting new initiative—the Future of Infusion Advisory Council (FIAC).  Read more about the FIAC and other Conference events in the May/June issue of INFUSION.

Russ Bodoff, NHIA's Executive Director delivered a state of the association message reporting on the major changes that have taken place in the association over the past year. For the full state of the association speach by Bodoff, click here.

Extraordinist Craig Karges

To Illustrate how important the power of positive thinking is in innovation, Craig Karges performed feats of the unexplained and unbelievable. Karges told association members that the seemingly impossible is possible—through the power of the mind.  “You have the power to create change, to create your own future,” said Karges, who made matter pass through matter, defied gravity, and read the thoughts of audience members.  “The alterative is to react to the future you find yourself in.”
